Reflection on third project

My third project is taking longer than I expected. I'm still going through the "work in progress" part of Sonic Pics. I made a teacher sample using my laptop and downloading pics from the internet into iPhoto, then syncing onto itouch, and all went well. When I tried to go through the same process with the students pics there were more problems. They could not log in, and the pics would not download. If I always have to take students into the cpu lab to complete this project it will be more time consuming, although I know it will be worth it.I understand that working out the glitches is a part of this process. Next year I'll need to give it more time.

Third Project

My students are working on president reports, so I decided to incorporate this with the new app, SonicPics. Students have drawn caricatures of their presidents which they will photograph using photobooth or a camera. These pictures will be placed on iphoto. Students will download pictures from various websites of their president and other photos related to their president's life/presidency. They will write notes explaining the photos. They will place then place these photos into iphoto, and then sync onto SonicPics. Students will review the information they have found, and create inferences about the character of their president based on the evidence they have read. They will record information about the photos, along with their inferences on the slideshow developed in Sonic Pics.

Reading strategy change in second project

Students will create thin/simple, yes and no answer questions with answers, and thick/more complex or universal questions from the selection, Yang the Second and Her Secret Admirers. Students will record thin or simple questions with answers, if possible. More complex questions will be discussed, and answered the best as possible, and recorded.
Reflection: This was a wonderful project to share with the parents during Open House. The parents were able to hear the questions their child had developed. In turn, the child was able to explain the difference between the simple and complex question. The student understanding and creation of the two different types of questions brought about a higher level discussion as the more complex or universal subjects and questions were developed. This has become an ongoing project for my class, and as the selections bring varying issues, the discussions become more in dept and differentiated.

Reading strategy project /second

Students will read the selection James Forten. The reading strategy for the selection is questioning. Higher level questioning will be modeled to students, and they will write several examples using past selections. Students will be directed to write questions during reading or listening sessions on James Forten. Students will then review the question with another student, and myself, before recording on the ipod. Students will then record on voice memo. After recording, students will write questions in their OWL- observations, wonderings and learnings to enhance comprehension, as they review before testing. After recording, students will return to ipod, to record answers to their questions, or realize that further investigation is necessary to find the answer.

Queen Califia Keynote

Download file "sara nava.zip" This is my first iREAD project. My students went on a field trip to Queen Califia's Sculpture Garden. After reading selections on Niki de Saint Phalle, the creator of the garden and Michelle Kwan, an HM selection. Students created a keynote, evaluating the character of the two women, and wrote text-to-self connections from their readings.

first time project blog

My first project is centered around fifth grade's HM theme 2, Give It All You've Got, and a field trip to Queen Califia's Magical Sculpture Garden in Kit Carson Park. Students will read, discuss and evaluate the life of Niki de Saint Phalle, before going on their field trip. While at the sculpture garden, students will take photos to use in their class keynote project. The reading stategies of evaluating, making connections, with the selections in Give It All You've Got, and the comprehension skill of fact and opinion will all be used in the keynote project the students will compile as a class.
