The 5th grade class I am working with has recorded biographies about historic figures. They are now going to put them into Garageband and add pictures and sound effects to them. If we can, we will be submitting these to the EYMF also! (we are submitting a couple of the speeches from project 2!)
I am working with them today (Friday) and Monday to get them into Garageband and add the necessary effects! I have a core group of students (6) who will be helping their peers to work in Garageband to assist me! This is so exciting! I love the idea of training a select few, and then having them go out and share that knowledge!

The comprehension strategy/skill would actually include; Sequence of Events, Monitor and Clarify, Noting Details, Propaganda, Topic, Main Idea and Supporting Details. In addition to the comprehension skills, they also applied higher level thinking skills of using comprehension skills to analyze information and synthesizing information to construct a biography that pulled in all the ideas they felt were important to make a complete picture of the person they chose and that person's life.

I also forgot to mention, they are using Info and Study Skills, which includes Giving an Oral Report.
The process they went through was to research and gather information about the person, synthesize it and put it into their own words. Write the draft for the oral report, edit and then record the report. Then apply the sound effects and pictures to illustrate what they said in the biography.
Some of them had controversial figures they chose to report on, like Hitler, and they uncovered little known facts about these people. I never knew Hitler was an artist. That is just one example.
