Early Recording Lesson - 2nd grade

A 2nd Grade teacher had each child read a page of their leveled reader, taking turns to record themselves. Afterwards they listened to the reader with different children's voices reading each page. That way they had all recorded and all got to listen. She says they thoroughly enjoyed hearing each child read, and they weren't shy because they had all participated.

Keeping the Library Clean - Project 2 movie

We still need to adjust the sound on the clips, to ensure you can hear the voices, but this is the "finished" project.

Project Live - Project 2 Script

Here is the script for the movie about keeping the library clean. I think we will need to go back and put in exact dialog. However this is what the students have done thus far.

iread - project 3 summary and work samples

I think this project would be appropriate for 3rd-5th graders. The teacher used the 7 ipods during her UA time, for students to record their speeches, and then we went to the computer lab and put them into Garageband. After seeing Paul Erickson's Story Structure examples, I will definitely try using Sonic Pics with them next week on our next project. We used Garageband, and it was a bummer I couldn't get them to export with their pictures. They all put some thoughtful and historic pictures with their speech. That would have been a great visual to accompany to oral report they recorded. Here are some sample biography speeches.

Code of Conduct - actual final copy!

After heeding all advice from my wonderful peers, we went back in and made some changes. While I know it's not perfect, it is much improved. I read the girls your comments and then we dove back in to work! Thank you everyone!

iread - project 3

The 5th grade class I am working with has recorded biographies about historic figures. They are now going to put them into Garageband and add pictures and sound effects to them. If we can, we will be submitting these to the EYMF also! (we are submitting a couple of the speeches from project 2!)

I am working with them today (Friday) and Monday to get them into Garageband and add the necessary effects! I have a core group of students (6) who will be helping their peers to work in Garageband to assist me! This is so exciting! I love the idea of training a select few, and then having them go out and share that knowledge!

iread - project 2

A 5th grade teacher approached me about her students doing speeches. She wanted to record their speeches, and then have other students listen and evaluate them. The students had the opportunity to record their speeches, listen to them and re-record them to improve them. Here are some examples of the speeches and the feedback students gave. I had a little trouble with the scanner, so portions of the feedback got cut off (there were 2 per page).

Code of Conduct video - project 1 for PL

The students have gotten to the final stage of editing their green screen video! I may need to meet with them to touch up the editing, but I think this is the final project. Please include any suggestions that will help me guide them to make it better! Love the input!

Project 2 iread

I have started a project with the High Point class, using pictures of the story used for Write Institute. I've been working on a couple of different ideas with the same material.

The students can pick 5 pictures from the story and record predictions.

I also let them do a project where they put in dialogue for the characters on the pictures using speech bubbles, and tell what they think the characters might be saying. This was done after they were familiar with the story.

In addition to this, I will be having them do a Story Structure recording following the same format with each story they read. They will tell 5 different pieces of information for each story: characters, setting, beginning, middle, and ending.

Code of Conduct Intro-Storyboard

The girls did the original storyboard by hand, and then we revisited it and they did digital photos and used the program Pages. (And, it wouldn't load...waited for over 20 minutes, so will work on it)

Aha! I had to go back and watch Frank's video on how to export it as a pdf and then attach. Here goes! I'm hoping this works.

Yeah! Here is the storyboard the girls did!

And...a late addition, the script they typed!

Keynote - iread 1st project

I went ahead with the idea of questioning and learning about questions with the High Point group of students. These students are English Learners with CELDT Levels of 1 or 2 and are at least 2 years below grade level. They are learning the basics of the English language.

We began by writing questions for an interview, and then proceeded to interview who they chose. I told them they could interview anyone at the site.

Here are a few of the examples included in my keynote project. A few students are missing because we didn't get a picture of them interviewing or the recording was of very poor quality. This was one of their first attempts at recording as well. They had recorded, but continuously, not at intervals where they had to pause and think or read something before continuing.

Computer Lab PSA

Here is my Computer Lab public service announcement. Keeping it under 60 seconds was very difficult for me because there were so many great things I wanted to add in. However, it is short and to the point. I had difficulty with the sound at the transitions and may need to go back to redo them. I need to have some more time to read ALL the helpful information we have available to us! Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the way it came out! I am really excited to hear how I can improve it!

Bonus PSA! Germs, germs, germs!

My LVN approached me and saw a grant/contest where they are offering $500 prizes for videos regarding health issues. I told her I'd be happy to help, so now I have a bonus PSA I will be working on in November!

She wants to get a new wheelchair for her office!

We are making green slime and showing what germs would look like if you could see them!

She got really excited and started her storyboard all on her own. Looks like I'll be the director on this one!

Script for Computer Lab PSA

This is the preliminary script for the PSA. I have not walked through it with the students yet, and I'm sure they will have something to add. Any suggestions welcome, since it is my first script. I tried to keep it simple!
Download file "Computer Lab Script.pdf"

Will need to add storyboard tomorrow. I have the shots of the computer lab, just don't have the kids in there yet! We are meeting at lunch to do our first walk-through.

Proposal for 1st iread project

I am going to go in to work with the High Point class at Lincoln. These are 4th and 5th graders. I will be starting with what they are already learning in Unit 3. Their culminating project, Lesson 14, is a writing project where they need to interview a worker about their job. They will need to write questions using who, what, when, and where stems. Then they will do the interview (recording with itouches) and then they will write the answers.

I will be working with them to conduct the interviews, record them, and then listen to the answers to write them down using italk. We will then transfer them onto a computer using italk sync and be able to share them with classmates.
