Two Idiomas (rough cut)

My class will be doing a PSA about the benefits of Multilingualism as a whole on people and how it has benefited them or affected them. Some of my students will say it in both of their languages which is English and Spanish. Some of my students will say it in Japanese, Tagalong and English. We will probably take all of the 90 minutes. I am going to have the students do some research on the internet and say a sentence of their findings and one of their own beliefs of multilingualism. We are going to stage the shots inside and borrow lighting from the D.O. I think it will be informational for the students to research something that they already know (two languages) and see the benefits that will come from them academically and some cognitive benefits too.
PS. This is our rough cut and only half of our PSA video has been shot. Some of my students are still learning their lines in sign language and Japanese. We hope in a couple of weeks it should be in it's finishing state.

What would you do with a million dollars?

We talked about the meaning of money. We also explored what a million dollars can actually buy now days and that you can’t buy everything you want in the world or a house on the beach anymore. We explored the concept of winning a million dollars and that they would have to pay taxes on it. They were very disappointed on the concept of taxes and the reality of taxes. They were very motivated in learning what a million dollars actually is. I was very proud of my students who also thought not only about themselves, but of wanting to help out family and others who are more unfortunate.

Respect

My class made a movie about what they thought "Respect" meant to them. They brain stormed many ideas and narrowed them down to four. They thought their ideas were important and wanted to share them with others. Hope that you enjoy the movie as much as they enjoyed making it.

Cinco de mayo

My students learned about cinco de mayo. They wrote up a short summary and illustrated the drawings themselves. They used the itouch application SonicPics and recorded their summary. They had a lot of fun doing the project and are enthusiastic about doing another project with SonicPics. I am glad to see my High Point Class excited about learning and wanting to write.

Location! Location! Location!

This is our rough draft of our movie Location! Location! Location! using green screen. It was our first time using green screen and it is a lot more difficult than we had anticipated. Trying to get exactly the right positions of where we wanted the shots to be was a little tricky. We still need to add music and edit sound. We are also considering reshooting some of the parts that did not come out the way we wanted them with the green screen. I think we needed a better green screen background. Some of our titles are not showing up what we had written in them.

Infer Recordings

My class recorded on the ipods using italk. They stated "The text says.....", "I know that....", and "I infer that....". We have been using this in our readings. I used a book that did not have text (Carl's Christmas) and are moving to books with text on it.

Inferring

My High Point students will use a Rigby guided reading book at the student's specific reading levels. The students will look through the pictures of the book and make a inference about the story. The students will then read the story and see if they were right. I will model this for them before the do their project. They will record their inference in the ipods.

Location! Location! Location!

My class is doing a movie on prepositional phrases that we are learning at the moment. We will be using green screen and will be in three different languages (English, Spanish, & Punjabi). Some of the students have a little bit of trouble with location words/prepositional phrases. My new student from India will benefit from this too.

Mouse-Deer Must Be Quick!!

We worked on comprehension skills using the book Mouse - Deer Must Be Quick! from English To A Beat, which is our ELD program for my High Point class. My students all read a page each with expression using Garage Band . We added the pictures of the story using Photo Booth and added some music to the project. Then, at the end of the story a few of the students recorded their opinions and their favorite part of the story as part of a book talk. My students had a lot of fun creating this project which they can view it anytime on my blog or on one of the class' ipod touch at their leisure.
