Room 14 presents a lesson in fluency

I have no idea what the tapping sound is in many of the clips. Maybe I need new batteries in the microphone? Any ideas? The beginning of this video was shot through a classroom window - that is why it is so dark. I would do that differently next time. It did not work as I had planned. There is no sound where you see students practicing their fluency - just shots of how they do it. I thought the kids were cute and did a good job explaining what fluency is.

Laura, everything you stated in your comments is exactly the reason to focus on the process, not the project. We create a video, or our students do, and then we see where we can make it better the next time. I am not sure about the tapping either; it sounds too regular to be a loose connection. I think the most important thing about your video is "did the kids have fun" and "did they learn something new?"

I thought the kids did a good job of explaining fluency, too. At the very end, when they all speak together and say, "Hurrah!", the young man sitting in front had such a look of achievement on his face- priceless!

You and your class sure have grown as filmmakers. This was a lot of fun to watch. They did a very nice job narrating (great language practice). I wish they would have explained those Alexander Graham Bell-like devices they were using.

Use of the fluency phones was a nice touch. The sound almost sounds like a record player needle going around and around....weird. Nice job of explaining what fluency actually is.

Nice Job Laura, I like the look through the window effect. You must of used the external mic (clicking). It is so hard to get good sound without extra noises on those. Other than that your class did a great job putting together a fluency video!

Have to agree that fluency is a big part of becoming a good reader. The more you read the better reader you will be. I also liked the idea of looking through the window. I learned that sometimes you get that clicking sound when the wireless microphone (the one that gets plugged in to the video camera) is too close to the camera or if you move it.
