This is an ongoing activity where students summarize a book they have read and a talk show host interviews them. It is my intention to get as many second graders as possible to participate in this program. This is in direct response to support our reading comprehension focus as well as summarize.

I like the extensible nature of your script; it can grow to fit your needs. I like the explaining of a summary. Good reinforcement. The tough part (but excellent educational opportunity) is going to be to get them to be BRIEF in their summaries, yet still cover beginning, middle, and end. I would also recommend them practicing and rehearsing their summaries, but not memorize them. That would kill the spontaneity of expression. Great idea.

Good script, but don't be discouraged when the kids want to ask in their own language. Sometimes this helps them to be more natural.
