My proposal for project 1 is to help Mr. Quiogue's 5th grade students create a Keynote project using summarizing. Students will research a Native American Tribe and create a slide show on Keynote to summarize their findings about their tribe.
Students will first have to do the research on the Internet, collect the information and do their summary on paper. Then students will use that information to create their Keynote slide show by adding photos and recording their own voice on the slide presentation.

I like the basic idea a lot and focusing on Summarizing keeps reading comprehension front and center. How much direction will you be giving on what information they should collect? Wide-open "Find out about the Navajo" or specific bits of data (where they lived, type of housing, etc.). I think they'll have a lot of fun with this (and maybe learn a bit, too).
