    Newbie Project: Energy Vampires

This is our Energy Vampires movie created for the Newbie Project. This PSA is about conserving electricity or energy at our school. The majority of the project was created by 5th grade students. They took most of the still images, did the filming, and audio. I did all of the final editing. It was a long process, but we are feeling more confident after our first movie.

    Hi Jose,
I really liked the concept of your video. I agree with you that it is a very time consuming endeavor. It is challenging to get it all put together while teaching a classroom of students. Laura

    Wow Jose!
You and the kids did a fantastic job! I bet they learned a lot (about filming and energy)! I agree also - it was a very time consuming process - more so than I thought! You rock! Jen

Really well done, Jose. I really liked the concept of energy vampire. Good visuals throughout. I might consider adding more information via voiceover during the part where you're showing examples of energy vampires. I agree with all that time and classroom management are really challenging. All the more reason to keep it simple, plan carefully, and consider all of your options. Great job.

Great job with all the examples of things that suck up energy in our schools. I liked the photographs and the voice over. I would be careful to match the voiceover with the pictures more carefully.

Great I like it!!! It was an interesting topic. I showed it to my students and they were fascinated to learn that stuff not in use can use energy. Of course now they're all bugging me to unplug. Very nice job.

Great concept. A couple of kids were a bit hurried in their reading - a common problem. But wow, I bet everyone learned a lot about video process and energy. Might be fun to debrief - "the making of the movie."

Nice job blending film and photos! Vampirism was a fun concept for your kids to explore. Song choice was appropriate - it probably could have been a little lower volume. Then again, I am listening with pretty poor quality speakers. Overall - very good first film! Peace Out.

Very good Jose. I might have lowered or altered the sound when students were talking. I might have sped up the images of energy sucking objects at some point to demonstrate the rapid use of electricity. Great job!

Nice Job Jose. Very informative and great way to present it. You might slow down the voice over. It went a little faster than the pictures. Good first project!

I loved the concept - energy vampires - awesome! Great costumes - hee hee. The kids did a great job showing others what they can do to conserve energy. Lots of great examples of things that suck up energy.
