Here are two 2nd grade student samples using GaraBand to summarize a non-fiction story.
The first student read a non-fiction story called the Laughing Hyena from a software program called Read Naturally.
He drew his picture on KidPix. I recorded his practice readings on the iPod Touch and then we used GarageBand to record his summary of the story in his own words.

Here is the second sample of a student summarizing the story called
The Komodo Dragon.

Jose, I really liked this idea. On the first one - Laughing Hyena - I could hear a person/people talking in the background a little bit. I also think the sound on Komodo Dragon was much more crisp - if that word makes sense. The audio is much better but I also heard people talking in the background in the beginning. It is so hard to block out all the noise in the background but I think the idea of reading the read naturally stories - did they summarize it in a retell or ?? are great along with a visual representation in Kid-pix. I love Kid-pix. Nice job!!
