Second Graders often have difficulty learning how to regroup in double-digit addition. I would like to explain with childrens' voices different ways to regroup, with the storyline thread throughout being a child wanting to join the "regrouper" club (all members wearing a "regroup" badge and copping light serority girl attitudes), and not being invited because s/he cannot regroup. Then the regroup fairy appears and shows the student how to regroup. The story ends with the child being a part of the club with his/her "regrouper" badge. (I saw different ways to regroup on Houghton-Mifflin's website in their new math program, and got the e-mail address from a publisher rep to review the explanations in the teacher addition to help me write the script).
Second choice would teach how to divide into groups and also whole-into-parts in the same short movie. The story line would be a child who has 7 cookies to give to her friends, but she has 2 friends and is not sure how to share the cookies equally. First, the child and friends would figure out through discussion how divide the cookies into 2 equal groups of 3 each. Then, with the 1 leftover cookies, the child would break the cookie into two equal parts to share.
I look forward to any input/advice!
Thanks!!

I think it's a great subject and your treatment sounds like fun. My major concern is scope; can you fit this into a minute or so? For your first solo effort you want to be able to get in and out quickly. If you think you can, full steam ahead. As you create the storyboard and script, try to "watch" the finished movie in your head to help you visualize how things should look. Makes it a lot easier once you have a camera in your hand.
