Disappearing Wetlands

Here is the finished movie, but still a work in progress as you will tell. My students and I had a hard time matching the green screen shots with the background shots. Sometimes the background would start without the green screen shot, or vice versa. Sound was also a bit off in some scenes because they were shot at the wetlands location. We also did some panning, but the shots were not smooth at all, so we took stills of the shots to include in the movie. I need to learn the proper technique so I can teach it to my students.

Disappearing Wetlands

After learning that California has lost 90% of its wetlands in preparation to our Earth Day field trip to San Elijo Lagoon, my class decided they would make a movie to inform other students and public in general the importance of protecting this threatened natural resource.

Final Version -Extraordinary Parents

Extraordinary Parents

This is our roughly-put-together video. My students are not satisfied with the sound yet (I am!) The volume varies according to the different microphones used and needs to be adjusted. They also want to do some color correction and play some more with the titles and music.
I have enjoyed watching my students take ownership of this video. Several shots have been done over and over because they want to make them better. They are also planning to do an English version with Spanish captions.

I know I should be reading the book to find out but maybe someone can just tell me. Is there a way to duplicate the project, so that I can just add the English voice over and be done with it?

I thank you in advance for your helpful comments.

PSA Newbie Project

I’m interested in creating a video to present to parents during Back to School Night. This video would demonstrate simple steps that parents can follow at home to give their children the best opportunity to be successful at school. Many of these steps, which we assume to be universal knowledge, are completely foreign to many of our families who come from generational-poverty backgrounds. A tentative name for the video is: “Simple Steps Secure Students’ Success.”

Some of the steps that I would like to include are:

  • Having a great day at school begins the night before. Put your child to bed not later than 8:30.
  • Wake him up at least an hour before school starts.
  • Help them/train them in hygiene basics. (Shower, comb hair, clean clothes)
  • Provide a nutritious breakfast free of extra sugars and other empty calories.
  • Pack a piece of fruit or a granola bar for a midmorning snack.
  • Make it a habit to take your child to school a few minutes before the bell rings.
  • Make it a habit to pick them up on time.
  • Set up a “study area” and a schedule to do homework.
  • Remove all distractions (Turn off T.V., videogames, cell phones, etc.)
  • Check homework and sign it when completed.
  • Together, check backpack and prepare it for the next morning.
  • Talk to your child about their school day.
