For this IREADS project my students used the Sonic Pics application to create a story board. Each student read the story "Iceberg Rescue" by Sarah Amada. Then they had to create a story board explaining the story structure. Students discussed in teams of two who the main characters, setting, problem, steps to solve the solution, and the final solution. Then, each student had to evaluate the author's purpose in writing the story and share a "wondering" they had after reading the selection.
Using the Sonic PIcs application, students downloaded their profile picture, their favorite scene from the story, and an illustration detailing what they had learned. They recorded their story boards and evaluations over the pictures and downloaded it to the computer.
Overall, the students were very engaged in the process. They enjoyed using the multiple technology sources to complete this project. In a follow up formative assessment given to the class on the comprehension strategy "evaluate" each student correctly identified what was entertaining, informative or useful about the selection, and shared detailed information on what they had learned. All of these skills were directly addressed in this IREADS project.
