David, I really like all the real life applications you included for writing. I think that especially for middle school students they need to see that continuum of where they are going with their education and all the possibilities it will provide them in their future. On your idea needed for entertainment, I was thinking of suggesting either a script for a movie, or a fun book they've all read like "Dogzilla" that is very entertaining and makes people laugh. Just a thought.

It sounds like you've visualized this pretty well. Having a narrator as your primary speaker will make this a lot easier to get to the finish line. I think Michele's point is a good one. I wouldn't scrap "writing for entertainment".

This sounds like it will be a great film for students to demonstrate to students all the different purposes for writing and it is part of everyday life. Looking forward to the finished piece.
