English Is Tricky

English Is Tricky sends the viewer on the adventure of a life time, teaching the ins and outs of irregular verbs. Let Central Schools Kindergarten students show you how easy it can be!

Hi Connie,
I thought your kindergartners did a great job with the video! I loved the fast paced camera technique. Laura

Hi Connie,
I would like to compliment you for really using video to teach students your stated objective of "teaching irregular verbs." You and your students accomplished these goals. One suggestion would be to check the audio so that it's always loud and clear since it was difficult to listen to what the students were saying in the opening scene and at the end of your movie.

Connie, I am really impressed! The fast video technique was great (it made me giggle). I bet the kids had a lot of fun and I bet they really know those words! (you might check the end of your video -you can hear yourself and a male teacher talking about recording the sound).

Your class is simply adorable. I congratulate you on a great job with those little ones. Clearly, you met your objective and your students I am sure understood those irregular verbs. I agree with Jen, the end of your video has voices.

Very fun! Seeing those little people in double time inspires me! I, personally, liked hearing the conversation at the end - illustrated some artistic choices during the moment they occurred :)

I loved the peppy music and the sped up motion. Maybe you should consider putting a title over the cuts to better illustrate the verb change.

Connie - The music that you chose fit your theme and the enthusiasm of the children brilliantly! This was very fun to watch and the kids were obviously having a great time!

Holy Cow! That was so cute! I loved how you involved every kid in your class on film - fun. The music was sooooooooo perfect and fun. The 'fast forwarding' was fun to watch - I'll bet your kids loved it.

Loved the content. Great use of video. Just be careful on the technical side:
1. In several shots the camera was not level. When setting up the tripod find a physical vertical line (edge of building, fence post) to line up with one side of the screen, or a horizontal line (roof top, window sill) to line up with the top or bottom of the screen.
2. Avoid shooting with main light directly behind subjects; to the front or side.
3. If you don't have a microphone, record from the camera in close up, then move back for illustrative footage.
I hope I don't sound nit-picky, but the contevt is so very good, you don't want to distract the viewer with little technical errors.
Bravo!

Connie, it is so neat to see even tiny kids involved in the movie process. It was such a good illustration of the concept that I am planning to show it to my fifth graders. ( It will help the ELL's "get" the idea better, I think.) One constructive comment would be that the kids were so darling, I wanted to see them up closer just a few times. They always seemed to be in groups of four or larger, and a line now and then done by one child in a face close up would be great.
