Max Read and the Case of the Runaway Decimal

This is a student-edited only version of the movie.  There is still a lot of cleanup work to do this weekend, and one scene that I'm going to change.  Any comments would be appreciated. (Note:  Video has been updated to final cut)

    Hey Christy,
This is a fun story and script. The students are so funny. I especially love the Elvis/Decimal! I bet the kids had a great time filming on location. Is there a plan to get rid of the background noise at the gas station? I think eliminating the cars noises would really improve the gas station scene. Of course I wouldn't know how to do that, but...

...but I think I do! In the timeline display, you can grab the audio track line and pull it down some for the parts where no one is speaking. Then, you could pick a little tune you like (check Garageband under Real Instruments - "Acoustic"), pull that in, and fade it out as the kids start to speak again. Hope that helps. Lots of absolutely fabulous elements to this video. If the kids wrote that script all by themselves, they did a great job injecting humor into their project. One more suggestion: if you have to do a bit more filming anyway, what about having your decimal actor, who was very good, do a short speech about the purpose of a decimal and how putting it in the wrong place can cause a big problem, as it did at the gas station. Great job, Christy!

your kids did a great job and I, too, love the humor! As far as the gas station scene goes, you could do like courtney said and use voiceover if you wanted. It can be difficult matching the voice to the mouth, though. The only other sound issue I saw was in the detective's office. Towards the end of the scene her voice seems to fade. They sure looked like they were having fun:0)

    Hi Christy,
I bet your kids learned a lot from creating this video themselves! Nice job! I can see where the sound might be an issue when they were running in the field and also in the detective office. I liked the shots at the gas station. Great field trip! As someone else said as well, I think it might be effective if you had the decimal explain its role somehow, to tie it all together....

The "need some pizzazz in my life" was hilarious. The audio on the outside takes could've been better. Your kids seemed to really be enjoying themselves. Well done!

The humor made me laugh out loud. Nice use of different camera angles, I saw over the shoulder a few times. It needs a little trimming, but I bet you have worked on that already. For instructional purposes, I would like to see how the decimal point changes the value of numbers a little more clearly.

Hi Christy, you already have lots of good comments and suggestions. I think all of us have trouble with sound. Good sound equipment is so expensive. But all in all you and your kids did a great job. It is very funny, and I bet your kids had a great time making it.
