Keeping up with passwords for accounts is a real challenge. One way to make it a little easier is to standardize your passwords. The first step is to look at the most restrictive password you have and then make that password the same for all of your school accounts (perhaps something different for your home accounts). Experts suggest that you have a more complicated password, so that students, etc. cannot figure it out. Some suggestions for crafting a good password include,
- minimum of eight characters
- use numbers and other characters
- use upper case and lower case
- do not have it spell a word, name, birthdate, or other personal info
- can chose a phrase (or just the first letters of that phrase); add other characters for increased security
The steps below are illustrated on the attachment: Password Help
- GroupWise email (minimum 4 characters) - Options > Password
- Google Apps (minimum 6 characters) - Mail > Settings > Accounts > Google Account Settings > Change Password
- PowerSchool - Setup > Personalize (it is suggested that you have 8 characters)
- Edusoft - Admin > Settings (case sensitive, 6-20 characters)
- School laptop - put in a help desk ticket to get this changed
- School network account - put in a help desk ticket to get this changed. Choose "unsure" for problem type (or call Ext. 150). Request to have them check the box that allows you to "have your password reset at next login"
